Grand Ledge High School Chemistry Classroom goes Outside for Hands-on Lesson in Water Quality this Friday in Carrier Creek

WHO: Two groups of Grand Ledge High School Students in Kirsten Almo’s "Chemistry in the Community" course


WHAT: Students will visit Carrier Creek, a tributary of the Grand River, to learn more about the form, structure and velocity of the creek. They will also collect water samples and aquatic organisms to take back to the classroom, to learn more about water quality.
Biologists Erica Staton and Stu Kogge from Wetland and Coastal Resources will lead the students through the process. Wetland and Coastal Resources works with Eaton County Drain Commissioner Brady Harrington to assist with community outreach and education as a part of a much larger Carrier Creek Drain rehabilitation project.


WHEN: Friday, October 18
One group from 9 to 11 a.m.
Second group from noon to 2 p.m.


WHERE: St. Joseph Highway, between Canal and Creyts roads. Students will be on north side of St. Joseph Highway, opposite of Players Club Golf Course.
