ADVISORY / PHOTO OPPORTUNITY 15 October 2003 Contact: Jennifer Wolfin or Randy Dean Pace & Partners 517-267-9800 Day also marks local celebration of World Water Monitoring Day WHO: About 40 Grand Ledge High School chemistry students WHAT: Students will visit Carrier Creek, a tributary of the Grand River, to test water temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, turbidity, and to learn more about the form and structure of the creek. They will also collect aquatic organisms and take water flow and channel morphometry measurements. Representatives from the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), along with biologists from Wetland and Coastal Resources (WCR), will lead the students through the process. WCR works with Eaton County Drain Commissioner Brady Harrington to assist with community outreach and education as a part of the much larger Carrier Creek Stormwater Management and Restoration project. WHEN: Thursday, October 16 First class: 8:30 to 10:15 a.m. Second class: 12:15 to 1:45 p.m. WHERE: St. Joseph Highway, between Canal and Creyts roads. Students will be on north side of St. Joseph Highway/Carrier Creek crossing, opposite of Players Club Golf Course. # # # Carrier Creek is a designated Eaton County drain, located primarily in Delta Township. It functions as a storm water drain for approximately 11 square miles of Delta and Windsor townships and the City of Lansing. More info at www.carriercreek.com.
