The Carrier Creek Project involves an innovative drain improvement and watershed management plan to help meet the drainage needs of Delta and Windsor townships. The Carrier Creek Project has been divided into two sections-one to the north of I-496 and one to the south:

SOUTH of I-496 (upstream), efforts focus on creating an effective drainage system and reducing flashy hydrology to the downstream portions of the drain. Stormwater management efforts include:
• Creating wetland detention areas to handle stormwater, maintain more consistent water levels in downstream portions of the drain, and improve water quality
• Creating detention control structures to help manage the flow in and out of detention ponds
• Installation of storm drain systems to improve stormwater drainage in developing areas
• Bridge crossing and culvert replacements to help manage flow

NORTH of I-496 (downstream), work is complete and has focused on creek restoration:
• Volunteer-organized cleanups of logs, trash and other blockages
• Construction of more than 40 meanders to reduce erosion and sedimentation, and improve water quality
Stream bank armoring to stabilize creek banks and reduce erosion
Livestaking, to restore vegetation and stabilize creek banks and improve wildlife habitat
